Rilos the Twins
The boys at eight days old. Their first picture together. Recent photos below.
This is Riley (named after B.B. King). He has red hair. My mother and grandmother both had red hair, and my beard was red before it turned gray. Their mother's family also has red hair, so there was a pretty good chance that one of the children would too. Here he is playing baseball in 2010 on the left and in September 2010 on the right. This is Carlos. I got to see both boys just after being born and Carlos opened his eyes right away. He has blond hair, as I did when I was an infant. He is named after his one of his great grandfathers on his mother's side of the family. The photo on the left was taken on the carousel in Collins Park in Saratoga Springs in August 2008. One of my favorites of him. The photo on the right is in September 2010.
Here are some photos from a few days old to today at six years old. Reluctantly, I have removed some old photos to make room for new ones. It's getting tough to do when there are hundreds of photos! There is a link at the bottom to a second page.
Born Monday March 28, 2005 by C-section, Riley Isaac Clapham Appel (formerly Bonecrusher) made his appearance at 8:16 am weighing a whopping 3118.5 grams (that's 6 pounds 14 ounces for those of you who still haven't learned metric) and measuring 48.25 cm (19 inches). Carlos Raymond Clapham Appel (formerly Snake) arrived two minutes later at a modest 2381.4 grams (5 pounds 4 ounces) and 45.7 cm (18 inches). They were born about a month early, so they were quickly moved to Albany Medical Center's NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). They had some trouble breathing, which is not uncommon to premature children, since the lungs are the last organ to develop. It's been six years since then, and my life is much different! |
